Ted Deutch, Democrat For Congress

Last week, I had the extraordinary privilege of watching the film Selma with my colleague, civil rights icon Congressman John Lewis. I have spent a lot of time reflecting on how far we’ve come since the dramatic marches in Selma fifty years ago. I am so proud of the progress of our country, but also I know that there is so much work left to do both in our nation, and around the world.

This is why I am honored that I was recently named co-chair of the Congressional LGBT Equality Caucus. Serving in this significant role will give me the opportunity to be on the forefront of eliminating discriminatory laws, confronting hate-motivated violence, and ensuring equality for all – regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.

My commitment to overcoming intolerance is also why I spoke at the U.N. General Assembly’s first-ever conference on global anti-Semitism. I was pleased to join over 60 countries and prominent human rights groups who gathered in New York to show support for fighting anti-Semitism and promoting human rights and tolerance. As the only Member of Congress who spoke at the event, I used that opportunity to address the alarming resurgence of anti-Semitism around the world and to urge zero tolerance for this invidious form of hate.

As your Representative, I will always stand up against hatred and intolerance, and I will work tirelessly to promote respect for human rights around the world. Thank you for your support of these efforts.

Regards,

Ted Deutch
