NAACP Mourns Tragic Murders of Three Syrian American Students

NAACP statement on Chapel Hill shooting

Baltimore, MD -  In light of the tragic murders of three Syrian American students Deah Barakat, 23, Yusor Abu-Salha, 21, and Razan Abu-Salha,19, the NAACP has released the following statement:

“The NAACP mourns the tragic and senseless loss of Deah Barakat, Yusor Abu-Salha,  and Razan Abu-Salha,  each of whom were active participants in their communities, studying subjects they loved and planning for their futures. We condemn all acts of violence and racial and religious intolerance. We call on the Chapel Hill Police Department and the Department of Justice for a thorough investigation to ensure that justice is served. Our sincerest condolences to the family and friends of the victims and everyone whose lives they touched.”

Craig Stephen Hicks, 46, the shooter, was charged with three counts of murder.

While police suggested it was a neighbor dispute over parking, relatives said  it was a hate crime.
