Leads by nearly 20 points among independent voters and leads in every region of the state outside of Chicago

New polling conducted in the race for State Treasurer by Reboot Illinois/We Ask America has Tom Cross leading Mike Frerichs 42-35.  Cross holds a commanding lead among independent voters (18 points) and leads by double digits in the collar counties and downstate Illinois. Even in Chicago, Cross is on pace to match the vote totals current Treasurer Dan Rutherford secured in his 2010 victory.

The Cross campaign issued the following statement in response to the new polling information:

“We are heartened by the support but there remains a lot of work to do.  Tom continues to campaign like he is behind and remains focused on communicating the clear differences between himself and Mike Frerichs.  With Mike Frerichs recent announcement of support for a service tax, the themes of the campaign are becoming crystallized—Frerichs wants to use the office of Treasurer as a platform to raise taxes and take even more from overburdened taxpayers while Cross will use the office to be a vigilant fiscal watchdog and protect taxpayers by fighting for a balanced budget and cracking down on fraud and corruption.”
