Paying For Water; Demand Justice for West Virginia
|
action alert!
You can still smell the fumes from the toxic spill that contaminated West Virginian’s drinking water. And local authorities say everything’s fine?
SIGN THE PETITION
On January 9th, a massive chemical spill poisoned drinking water across 9 West Virginia counties. 300,000 people lost access to tap water, all the while breathing in the eerie licorice smell that blanketed the region. It didn’t take long for Governor Tomlin to lift water restrictions, but residents know better. Almost nothing is known about the effects of the two spilled chemicals. A lingering chemical smell and recent school closures means that the convenience of local water just isn’t worth the risk. Freedom Industries and the coal industry as a whole are to blame. But don’t expect the state government to do anything about it — they’ve already proven to us that they won’t. For some real changes, sign the petition to President Obama demanding the termination of West Virginia’s mining enforcement program.
