CHICAGO, IL – Spring is usually a popular time of year for home improvements and according to a Better Business Bureau serving Chicago and Northern Illinois (BBB) online poll, this year may be a busy one for local contractors. The month-long survey indicates 75-percent of respondents plan to use some type of professional help for home improvements.

“This overwhelming majority of people planning to use contractors to improve their homes, condos and yards this spring bodes well for the construction business,” explained Steve J. Bernas, president and CEO of the Better Business Bureau serving Chicago and Northern Illinois. “The large number of people interested in using contractors for work ranging from roofing to landscaping shows the home improvement sector of the construction industry should have a busy spring.”

Of those seeking professional help for repairs, 20-percent indicated planning exterior home repairs. Tied for second place with 18-percent each were roofing and landscaping; followed by a 10-percent vote for deck/patio/walkway improvements. Professional painting was selected by 9-percent of the respondents.

“Almost one-quarter of respondents stated they are postponing the use of contractors for fix-up and improvement needs,” explained Bernas. “This could potentially indicate the economy is holding consumers back from spending money on the construction industry.”
