U.S. Senator Dick Durbin: What’s A Patriotic Corporation? – Sign Petition For the Patriot Employer Tax Credit
It’s time we reward companies who do the right thing
Too many big businesses in America have lost their way — more focused on making their executives rich than doing right by their workers.
I think it’s time to reward companies that keep jobs here in the United States; give their employees a living wage, quality health insurance, and a good retirement plan; and employ a diverse workforce. And that’s why I’m proposing a new idea: the Patriot Employer Tax Credit.
We need to stop rewarding companies for doing the wrong thing, and start encouraging them to do the right thing. That’s exactly what my new legislation would do.
Right now, federal tax loopholes that benefit companies shipping jobs overseas cost American taxpayers $50 billion a year! Can you believe it?
You’d think both political parties would want to see workers get better wages and benefits. And you’d think everyone on Capitol Hill would want the tax code to reward companies that don’t ship their jobs overseas.
That’s why we call it the Patriot Employers Tax Credit. This ought to be something red, white, and blue that we all agree on.
But of course, it’s not that simple. Large companies that outsource jobs employ a battalion of powerful lobbyists. They buy friends on Capitol Hill who will go out of their way to protect their lucrative taxpayer-funded subsidies.
So to get this bill through, it’s going to take some grassroots muscle.
What better time to start pushing this legislation than now, the week of our Independence Day? Please have a safe and enjoyable holiday weekend.
Yours,
Dick Durbin
U.S. Senator
