Thanks to the South Shore Opera Company of Chicago, the patrons of its ten year anniversary tribute concert received a rare opportunity to honor the legendary tenor George Shirley last Sunday. The Grammy Award-Winning Mr. Shirley took to the stage receiving a thundering loud applause and standing ovation from the audience. He proceeded to share his story, an epic journey from military soldier to opera singer. After receiving the evening’s award of a portrait painted in his honor, he gave the audience an opera performance they will never forget. The overwhelming applause he received was a pretty good indicator that he is still one of the greatest tenors of all time.
Mr. Shirley was not alone that evening. He was in good company with several other great tenors there that gave outstanding opera performances.
