A study released by Jama Surgery revealed that the mortality rate for patients is much higher for minority patients. Several other reports found similar results, yet this major gap isn’t being addressed in Congress’ efforts to improve our healthcare system.
Excluding socioeconomic factors, hospital quality, and a patient’s medical history, the mortality rate was still significantly higher. Congress has the opportunity to improve the welfare of all Americans, and they must start with the conversation around racial disparities.
