Giannoulias Applauds Passage of Health Care Legislation in U.S. Senate
Hopes for Improvements
State Treasurer and U.S. Senate Candidate Alexi Giannoulias released the following statement regarding passage of health care legislation in the U.S. Senate:
“The U.S. Senate today took an historic step toward reducing costs and covering more Americans with quality health care. This isn’t a perfect bill –I am disappointed that a non-profit plan to compete with insurance companies is not part of this legislation and I oppose taxing employer-provided health care benefits to pay for it — but it does ban insurance companies from denying care based on pre-existing conditions, eliminates caps on benefits, reduces the deficit by nearly $1 trillion over the next two decades, and covers millions of working Americans who can’t afford today’s skyrocketing insurance costs,” said Giannoulias.
