Ford Height teen charged in murder
A 16-year-old from Ford Heights has been charged with a murder that occurred in the south suburb earlier this week, according to the Office of Cook County State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez.
Paris Walker appeared before Judge Darron Bowden at the Markham Courthouse today where he was ordered held without bail. Walker’s next court date is set for Feb. 13, 2014.
According to prosecutors, on Jan. 22, 2014, at approximately 7:30 p.m., Walker and the victim, 17-year-old Malik McMillian of Chicago Heights, had an argument in the area of the 1400 block of Ambassador Lane in Ford Heights. As McMillian attempted to leave, Walker fired several shots, hitting McMillian and killing him.
Walker was arrested by Cook County Sheriff’s Police later that evening.
The public is reminded that criminal charging documents contain allegations that are not evidence of guilt. The defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial at which the state has the burden of proving guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
