Charleston Shooting: “…Once again, a senseless act of gun violence has visited one of America’s houses of worship and left a community shattered…”
From: Americans For Responsible Solutions PAC
The announcements section on the website of the Emanuel A.M.E. Church in Charleston, South Carolina promotes a “Bunny Hop” sponsored by the church school, an “Annual Health Fair,” and a weekly bible study in the lower level of the church.
On Wednesday night, a gunman attended that bible study for almost one hour, pulled out a gun, and killed nine of the worshipers.
A five-year-old child escaped the shooting because she knew to play dead.
Once again, a senseless act of gun violence has visited one of America’s houses of worship and left a community shattered. Once again, Americans are left to wonder when our country will say enough is enough, and when our leaders will do something to make us safer from gun violence.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Charleston — as they remain with the people of Aurora, Newtown, Isla Vista, Navy Yard, Virginia Tech, Fort Hood, Milwaukee, Tucson, and far too many other communities across the country.
As President Obama said yesterday, “At some point, we as a country will have to reckon with the fact that this type of mass violence does not happen in other advanced countries. It doesn’t happen in other places with this kind of frequency. And it is in our power to do something about it.”
It is in our collective power to act — to mourn and stand with the Charleston community, and to convince our lawmakers in Congress and states across the country to do what it takes to make us safer from gun violence.
Thank you for joining us in both of those causes.
