British Deputy Ambassador to visit youth technology project in Englewood

CHICAGO, IL – On Thursday, November 21st , Patrick Davies, British Deputy Ambassador to the US, will be visiting Teamwork Englewood to meet with students who participate in Englewood Codes.

Englewood Codes launched this year as a 10-week summer project to teach local teens how to write HTML, CSS and JavaScript to build their own websites from scratch.

Of particular interest to the Deputy Ambassador is the program’s use of the Raspberry Pi, a credit-card-sized computer designed by the UK-based Raspberry Pi Foundation. The foundation created the Raspberry Pi to promote computer science education among youth.

To raise funds to purchase supplies and equipment for the project – including a Raspberry Pi for each student - Teamwork Englewood turned to crowdfunding site Kickstarter. By the end of their 45 day campaign, Teamwork Englewood raised more than $10,000.

A total of 25 teens participated in the Englewood Codes 10-week summer program. The next session of Englewood Codes, a week-long code camp, will take place during the CPS winter break.
