Bobby Rush releases new CD "Show You A Good Time"

Nationwide (BlackNews.com) — In the last decade, Bobby Rush has expanded beyond his longtime status as the king of the chitlin circuit: to enjoy worldwide recognition. He’s toured China and Europe and even visited the troops in Iraq, but all the while Rush continues to entertain his traditional audience with a stage show that has no equal.
On his latest CD, Show You A Good Time (Deep Rush Records), Rush once again reveals the musical flexibility and dynamic performance style that continually win over new audiences. As usual there’s plenty of Rush’s famously candid observations on the mating game, but the decidedly modern record demonstrates he’s no nostalgia act.
With its spotlight on Rush’s qualities as a ladies’ man the exuberant title track could well become his theme song, while he takes a decidedly more somber tone on the betrayal song “My Friend”, which was inspired by Nina Simone.
Rush effortlessly mixes the modern and traditional on “I Gotcha”, with its blend of his harmonica and the synthesizer, while “I’m Good As Gone” is a textbook illustration of his :folk-funk: approach.
He reveals his strength in old-style blues on “Let Me In Your House” and “Broken Hearted Man”, and his storytelling skills are on display in “Playin’ Me Crazy”, a song whose roots stretch back over a hundred years.
In the latest chapter in the Jody saga, “Jody Didn’t Take Your Woman”, Rush points the finger at inattentive lovers, and in Sniffers calls out men – including some fellow musicians – who are bit too indiscrete in their admiration of the opposite sex.
Most of the songs here were created as collaborative efforts with Nashville-based producer, arranger and multi-instrumentalist Paul Brown at his Ocean Soul Studios (www.oceansoulstudios.com).
