For too long, legislation like Georgia’s “Guns Everywhere†bill has sailed through state legislatures with little or no opposition.
We started Americans for Responsible Solutions to change that — to help give a voice to the 90% of Americans who support common sense solutions to reduce gun violence.
We have a tough road ahead of us, but our efforts are beginning to pay off.
Outrageously, late last night, Georgia’s General Assembly rammed through elements of the extreme “Guns Everywhere†bill that would allow gun offenders to carry weapons in schools, bars, courthouses, and even in the world’s busiest airport.
But because ARS members stood up and made their voices heard, two of the bill’s worst provisions, which would have allowed guns on college campuses and in churches, were removed from the final legislation.
Spread the word about it:
We were able to change the content of this legislation thanks to the collective action of people across the country — especially the ones who organized on-the-ground in Georgia.
Over 12,000 Georgians signed our petition against the “Guns Everywhere†legislation, and we delivered their message directly to the state’s Governor and Lt. Governor.
We also drove over 2,000 personal phone calls to their offices, and over 50,000 people across the country added their voices on our national petition.
We’re not done organizing yet. We’re disappointed that Georgia lawmakers forced through this bill with a last minute vote, and we’ll continue working with Georgians in the coming week to urge the state’s Governor to veto the bill and prevent its other dangerous provisions from becoming law.
