Whistleblower Summit® for Civil & Human Rights Summit Talks-Whistleblower Lecture Series

Over the past twelve years members of the MISC (whistleblowers and advocates) have passed thirteen laws, including: No FEAR and the WPEA, conducted congressional lobby days, provided CLE training, written Op-Eds, published magazines and books, hosted radio shows, provided mentoring and lawyer referrals, penned sign-on letters, submitted amicus briefs, written columns and law review articles, made television appearances, held protest rallies at the White House and on the National Mall; we’ve even “occupied” government agencies and hosted both national and regional conferences in Washington, DC; New York, N.Y.; Los Angeles, Calif.; Chicago, Ill.; Baltimore, Md.; Atlanta, Ga.; and Houston, Texas.

It is an impressive list of accomplishments when you consider all of the stigmatism and stress that individual whistleblowers face at the hands of the government and evil corporations. Together, the MISC community has achieved impressive results.

The purpose of the Whistleblower Summit® is to celebrate the collective achievements of whistleblowers and our advocates. The Whistleblower Summit® for Civil and Human Rights, is the largest and most prestigious whistleblower conference on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC. We are organizing a whistleblower lecture event (mini-summit) at the Clinton School in April. We are researching historically significant Arkansas Whistleblowers as well as notable investigative journalists in the state and nationally. Consequently, we are partnering with the Clinton School of Public Service to bring the Whistleblower Summit® to Little Rock later this spring.

The Whistleblower Summit® is unique because it combines legislative advocacy, public policy discussions with community and social events. During the conference we have panel discussions, press conferences, award presentations, receptions, luncheon/dinner, movie night, book signings, etc. Senator John Boozman was previously honored with a “Pillar Award” at the Whistleblower Summit® on Capitol Hill in 2014 for supporting criminal prosecutions following the revelations about wrongdoing and “cooking the books” within the Veteran’s Administration.

We are in the midst of a campaign to designate July 30th as National Whistleblower Appreciation Day. While the usage of the term “whistleblower” in popular culture began in the 1970s around the Vietnam War-the first law the provided protections to citizens (whistleblowers) who report abuses of the public trust was passed by the Continental Congress on July 30th, 1778. Arkansas State Representatives Vivian Flowers and Ken Ferguson are introducing a proclamation or resolution to support that holiday-Arkansas could be the first State Legislature to support National Whistleblower Appreciation Day.
We are planning a one and a half day summit built around our panel/presentation at the Clinton School on April 22, 2016.

And we want to center the summit on national whistleblowers as well as high-profile journalists. We have already reached out to AETN and they have expressed interest in this topic and event. I have attached a tentative schedule / calendar of events to this email.
