Senate Majority Leader Donne Trotter (D-17th) Wednesday announced he has moved his legislative district office from 8709 So. State St. to 8658 So. Cottage Grove next to Walgreens 87th in the shopping mall.

The office will also house Rep. Elgie R. Sims, Jr. (D-34th) and Cook County Comm. Stanley Moore for a “one-stop government service office,” according to Senator Trotter.

“We work in tandem, and when we do things get done,” said Trotter.

Trotter reported that the Illinois Black Caucus hired 6,000 youth this summer of whom 600 were hired in his district. We split $10 million from each senatorial district to hire young adults from 16-24 years old. “Many of those jobs are going to transcend into full-time jobs because they have proven to be good for the workforce.”

“We wanted to have a get together for all 6,000 youth at the South Shore Country Club, but the Chicago Park District wanted to charge us $6,000 for food and $12,000 to rent the park just for four-hours and the rest of the money to buy insurance. They wanted $20, 000,” Trotter said.

“At the last minute when we said we would cancel it, the Park District said they would waive the costs, but it was too late,” he said. On the other hand, Trotter said he is excited about the jobs for the youth especially those who will continue working beyond the summer.
