San Francisco, CA – In celebration of its sixth anniversary, Museum of the African Diaspora (MoAD) will host a black-tie affair that is expected to be a high profile event where corporations and distinguished individuals from all sectors come together to celebrate MoAD’s extraordinary achievements. The evening promises to be very special with celebrated actor/producer Delroy Lindo as Master of Ceremony, and will include dinner, dancing and lively entertainment. Gala Co-Chairs, Lloyd H. Dean President/CEO, Catholic Healthcare West, and Deborah Santana, Founder, CEO of Do A Little, Inc., will present Honors Circle Awards to recognize individuals who have supported MoAD since its inception.
The pre-gala reception will include soulful entertainment by J’LaChic’s Legendary Women and a silent auction of artwork by the celebrated, self-described “improvisationalist” artist Richard Mayhew. In addition to music by the renowned John Santos Quintet and dancing, post-dinner activities will incorporate live auctions of lunch with Delroy Lindo, former San Francisco mayor Willie L. Brown, CPUC Commissioner Timothy Alan Simon, former San Francisco Forty-niner Jaime Williams, and Lloyd Dean. Proceeds from the gala and auctions will support MoAD’s mission, vision and goal to showcase exhibitions and educational programs that expand its reach to our multi-ethnic communities.

| MoAD is delighted that among its special guests will be Maurice Richard Hennessy. Lineage, tradition and knowledge are the driving force behind the Hennessy’s success. As Public Relations Ambassador for Hennessy Cognac, he proudly carries the family mantle as a member of the eighth generation in the direct line of descendents of founder, Richard Hennessy.   ABOUT THE ARTISTBorn in 1934 in Amityville, NY, Richard Mayhew’s reverence for the land and sea was established during his early years in his small hamlet on Long Island. In the late 1950s, he studied art at the Brooklyn Museum Art School, the Art Students League and Hans Hofmann’s School of Fine Art in New York.
Mayhew’s work is represented in the permanent collections of the Whitney Museum of American Art; the National Museum of American Art, Smithsonian Institution; the Brooklyn Museum; the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; the Los Angeles County Museum; The Manoogian Collection and the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History, among others. MoAD’s “piece de resistance,” the 18X24″ donated Mayhew painting, titled Paso Robles, is a stunning work in the atmospheric landscape tradition for which the artist is world renown. This work will be a spectacular addition to any collection or it can be the work that starts your journey to being a serious collector. It will be the centerpiece of any home and will bring joy for years to come. The stunning piece is valued at $18,000. ABOUT THE MUSEUM The Museum of the African Diaspora (MoAD) showcases the history, art and the cultural richness that resulted from the dispersal of Africans throughout the African Diaspora through innovative and engaging exhibitions, education and public programs. By realizing its mission MoAD connects all people through our shared African heritage.  Incorporated in 2002 as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, MoAD opened its doors in 2005 in 20,000 sq. ft. of space contiguous with the St. Regis Hotel and Residences and in the historic Williams Building at 685 Mission Street at Third. MoAD was conceived as a cornerstone of the economic and cultural revitalization of downtown San Francisco and has become an anchor with its neighbors the San Francisco MoMA, the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, Zeum, and the Contemporary Jewish Museum in making this dynamic cultural corridor a premier cultural destination.
