At the Victory Gardens Biograph Theatre, October 4 & 5 as a part of Teatro Vista’s New Late Night TV Series

CHICAGO, IL – Teatro Luna will be bringing their work home to Chicago on October 4-5, 2013 at Victory Gardens Biograph Theatre, in association with Teatro Vista’s Late Night TV. This summer, Teatro Luna toured LUNA UNLACED over twenty-eight times in sixteen cities throughout Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, California, Oregon, Washington, New York and Massachusetts in preparation for their first appearance at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland, the largest arts festival in the world. Teatro Luna has ambitiously taken steps to reach their goal of establishing themselves as a national institution for Women of Color and the development of New and Original work by embarking on a national tour that has taken them all the way to the United Kingdom!

With LUNA UNLACED, A Choose Your Own Adventure Play, the ladies of Luna give you a chance to decide the show live from moment to moment! Using monologues, songs, scenes and poetry, they delve into a whole slew of issues ranging from sexuality, latinidad, adventures in immigrant story archives, racist encounters, and the sometimes self-induced drama that makes up their lives as Latinas in the USA. The idea is simple: they’ve picked twenty of their favorite small plays from the past seven years, and through a series of random draws, Twitter battles and trivia questions, the audience picks the twelve plays they want to see. The show is different every night, and the actors are as surprised as the audience. Anything can happen with the Ladies of Luna!

“Slightly campy, sometimes serious, always deployed with meticulous timing, professionalism and talent, Luna Unlaced is a show with staying power.” (TheatreJones Dallas)

This is the first time in Luna’s thirteen year history the company has embarked on a tour of this magnitude. Without much more than hope, a few suitcases and a brand new show, the company set off for South Texas to start performing in June. Over the next six weeks, the company performed LUNA UNLACED twenty-eight times, many times for audiences that paid nothing at the door. They stayed in housing donated from Luna fans all over the country, purchased gas with donations collected at the show the night before, and answered individual requests by companies to come perform the next week. Executive Director of Teatro Luna, Alexandra Meda, adds that “It’s exciting for Teatro Luna to travel all over the country to perform our new original work. This show was intentionally crafted to be one of the most entertaining evenings spent at the Theatre all year, and yet, we still manage to jam-pack our social justice mission into every heartbeat of the performance. We’re so thrilled to have shared it with these unique communities.” And now, they’re bringing the show to Chicago!

“The show is performed with aplomb…The writing is crisp and the performances winning.” (Diane Rodriguez, Center Theatre Group, Los Angeles)
