National Speaking Tour Event #RiseUpOctober – Which Side Are You On?

On Wednesday, August 5th, at 11 a.m., Stop Mass Incarceration Network will hold a Press conference and photo op at Police headquarters, 35th & Michigan Ave., in their tour to organize a huge demonstration in New York City October 24th.

Speakers at the event will be Carl Dix, a co-initiator of the call for October 24 and a representative of the Revolutionary Communist Party, Rev Jerome McCorry, faith advocate of the Stop Mass Incarceration Network, and Stolen Lives Families from Chicago.

“Are you taking a stand against the epidemic of police terror or not? Which side are you on? That’s the question the #RiseUpOctober will pose August 5th in Chicago in their tour to organize a huge demonstration in New York City Oct 24th.

Families of victims of police violence from Chicago and the Midwest will speak out at the press conference in support of #RiseUpOctober. The ACLU has documented 600 people who have been killed by the police across this country so far this year.

The Call Rise Up October 24 to STOP Police Terror—signed by families of people killed by police, people from the arts, the faith community and activist movements—is for actions which are “resistance-based, uncompromising in spirit and, at the same time, pluralistic and diverse, involving thousands and thousands of people, reaching into every corner of this society and powerfully impacting the whole world.”

The Stop Mass Incarceration Network is a project of the Alliance for Global Justice, a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. The Stop Mass Incarceration Network is building a movement to stop the injustice of mass incarceration and police brutality; and the racially biased policies and practices of the police, the courts and the U.S. legal system; and to support the rights of prisoners and the formerly incarcerated. We call on all to join us.
