State’s Attorney Attends Peace Day Program at Julian High School
Cook County State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez was the keynote speaker at a program at Julian High School paying tribute to a teacher who lost her life to domestic violence and speaking with students about the issues of domestic and teen dating violence.
The “Peace Day 2014†program was created by students from Julian’s Broadcast Technology program designed to raise awareness about important issues facing high school students. Today’s program is dedicated to Julian High School teacher Tanisha “Nikki†Thurmond who lost her life in 2007 in a domestic violence incident. The program includedremarks from State’s Attorney Alvarez and a documentary on the life of Thurmond that was produced by the students.
The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office prosecutes all crimes of domestic violence and sexual assault that occur in Chicago and Cook County. State’s Attorney Alvarez has made these issues a high priority in her administration and continues to work to speak out and raise awareness about these crimes.
“Peace Day 2014†took place Friday, May 9, 2014, at Julian High School, 10330 S. Elizabeth, Chicago.
