STAY SAFE DURING SPRING BREAK
With winter on the run and summer just around the corner, it is finally the season of spring break. If you are planning a vacation this spring, here are a few tips for staying safe while enjoying some well-deserved rest and relaxation:
- When you arrive at your destination, put the vital information for your lodging into your phone. Most vacation spots have numerous hotels that look and sound alike; this will help direct whoever is shuttling you around and avoid confusion in case of an emergency.
- Keep close track of valuables and financial information. While a hotel safe is a viable option, keep in mind that hotel staff may still have access. Other alternatives include bringing a combination lock for a suitcase, or asking the concierge to hold belongings while on an excursion.
- How do you plan on getting around? Research the taxi services, Uber availability, and local public transportation schedule to ensure you always have a way back to your hotel regardless of where you are and what time it is.
- Have fun, but stay alert. Resort towns and spring break hot spots can give vacationers a false sense of security. From property crimes to robberies, vacationers are prime targets for criminals to take advantage of. Don’t assume everyone is there just to have fun.
- When enjoying a night out, remember, arrive together, and leave together. Don’t let someone in your group leave with someone they just met, even for a short period of time. Have a plan for where to meet if you get separated and check in with each other from time to time.
Spring break should be a time to relax and unwind, follow these safety tips and stay alert to ensure everyone has a safe and healthy vacation this year.
