State’s Attorney Alvarez recognizes crime victims with Courage Awards in recognition of National Crime Victims Rights Week

Cook County State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez will present awards to crime victims who despite tragic acts of violence continue to inspire and give hope to others during an award ceremony in recognition of National Crime Victims Rights Week. 

Among the recipients are the family of slain DePaul University student, Francisco Valencia, Jr., who have created an organization to curb gang violence, and Gabriela Tovar, who was severely injured and lost both of her legs after being hit by a stolen car.

Earlier this month, the Cook County’s State’s Attorney’s office launched a community awareness campaign, including a public service annnouncement to educate and empower citizens throughout the county about victim rights and services.

The ceremony was held yesterday at the Chicago Fraternal Order of Police headquarters at 1412 W. Washington, Chicago.
