Cook County State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez will recognize and pay tribute to the family and friends of homicide and reckless homicide victims as well as those who have survived violent crime during a special ceremony today (Saturday, September 24th).
Hundreds of people are expected to attend the ceremony, which will include moving testimonials from loved ones including Norman Golliday, the grandfather of murder victim Derrion Albert, a Fenger High School honor student, beaten to death by a group of young men in 2009.
The office’s Victim Witness Assistance Program facilitates the event, which includes a resource fair, referral services and an on-site support group.  Over 100 photo boards will be on display with photos of victims submitted by loved ones.Â
The ceremony will be held today, Saturday, September 24, 2011, at the UIC Forum, 725 West Roosevelt Road, Chicago at 11:00 a.m.
