“Special Holiday Gifts for Chicago Architecture Nerds”

Chicago Detours Offers Gift Cards and Architectural Ornaments
CHICAGO, IL — Tour company Chicago Detours offers a new gift idea for people who love Chicago architecture and history with holiday ornaments made from historic architectural details. These ornaments are available for purchase from their Chicago Detours Store, along with additional gifts such as their gift cards for tours of architectural interiors or historic bars.
These limited-edition holiday ornaments are hand-cast architectural details of a design from the 1920s. Decorator’s Supply Corporation, which has been crafting beautiful moldings, corbels and the like since 1883, made the rosette forms in their Bridgeport neighborhood studio on Chicago’s South Side. The small octagonal objects used for the ornaments are made using composite – a natural material that has been used for architectural ornamentation for centuries.
In order to transform architectural details into holiday ornaments, Chicago Detours staff first painted over the composite. Then they added delicate gold accents by hand and ribbons for hanging. Each ornament comes with a tag that shares historic background on Decorators Supply and their special architectural details, as well as a muslin gift bag. They are for sale for $12 each, or three for $30.
For friends and family who may prefer an experience of Chicago history and architecture, Chicago Detours sells gift cards for regularly scheduled tours of interior architecture and historic bars. These indoor walking tours create memorable experiences of learning and fun for a great holiday activity during the winter or any time of year. Options include the Loop Interior Architecture Walking Tour, available six days a week, and the Historic Chicago Walking Bar Tour, available Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Gift cards are priced for a pair of tickets to either tour or you can set your own gift card amount.
