SPRINGFIELD, IL — Illinois State Senator Kwame Raoul (D-Chicago 13th) issued the following statement on the P-12 education budget passed by the Senate:

“Education is a priority for us, and the governor has told us it is a priority for him as well. This legislation is responsive to his request, and we are approving it as a stepping stone to the next phase of negotiations. Tonight, we leave here having passed a plan that fully funds education on a stand-alone measure, with the goal of ensuring schools will open on time in the fall this year. Moreover, we advance the cause of pension funding parity for the good of the children of Chicago’s public schools.

“I look forward to continuing discussions throughout June toward a comprehensive budget that meets the needs of the people of Illinois.”
