Obama Administration and Congressional Black Caucus to meet with "Ames on the Hill"

Washington, DC (BlackNews.com) – The African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church, the oldest Black Christian denomination in the United States, will hold the First AMEs on the Hill, on Wednesday, September 21, 2011, in Washington, DC.

This Christian denomination consists of over 1.5 million members worldwide. The entire AME Church membership, including Bishops, Pastors, Clergy and Laity have been invited to convene and meet with the Obama Administration, White House staff, the members of the House and Senate, and local city officials, to discuss the President’s proposed new jobs plan. The AME contingent also will engage in talks with Administration and Congressional officials about affordable healthcare, education and faith-based initiatives.

“We are convening for the first time in the Nation’s Capital, as a national voice for justice, equity, and economic parity,” said Jackie Dupont-Walker, director of the Social Action Commission of the African Methodist Episcopal Church.

The AMEs hope and pray to use Wednesday’s meeting to begin a dialogue that results in a partnership with the government and the AME Church that benefits African Americans. In 2008, the AME Bishops came together collectively and prayed for then-Candidate Obama during their General Conference in St. Louis. 9:30 a.m. – Eisenhower Executive Office Building, next to the White House

Lunch
12:00 p.m. – Lunch will be served at 1539 Longworth.

Capitol Hill
1:30 p.m. – Participants will meet with the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) and other elected officials.

Return to Crystal City
3:30 p.m. – Buses will depart from Capitol Hill to take AMEs back to the Crystal City Marriott & Radisson

6:00pm – The African Methodist Episcopal Church Service and Development Agency (AME SADA) Banquet at the Marriott Crystal Gateway Hotel, 1700 Jefferson Davis Highway, Arlington, Virginia
