NAACP Chairman Roslyn M. Brock Pens Open Letter to Baltimore Mayor
Baltimore, MD: Roslyn M. Brock, Chairman NAACP National Board of Directors, penned the following open letter to Baltimore Mayor Rawlings-Blake:
Dear Mayor Rawlings-Blake:
On behalf of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), we commend your leadership in the wake of the tragic death of Mr. Freddie Gray, Jr. As a life long member of the community, we greatly appreciate your efforts to restore peace and provide a safe haven for families in Baltimore.
We recognize the extraordinary challenges you have faced. However, there remains crucial work to be done to ensure law enforcement accountability, regain the trust of the community, and to rebuild your city.
We commend State’s Attorney Marilyn J. Mosby’s decision today to begin the judiciary process by issuing criminal charges against the six (6) Baltimore police offiers involved in Freddie Gray’s death.
The NAACP has called for passage of The End Racial Profiling Act that addresses the insidious practice of discriminatory treatment by law enforcement.
We look forward to continuing to work with you, the State’s Attorney office, our NAACP local and state conference leaders, clergy and other dedicated Baltimoreans to not only revive our great Charm City, but to make Baltimore an even better place to live, work and raise our families.
Sincerely,
Roslyn M. Brock, Chairman
NAACP National Board of Directors
Leon W. Russell, Vice Chairman NAACP National Board of Directors
