From 11AM-1PM, Chicagoans can “Get caught red-handed, painting” at the Goodman

Chicago, IL – Mayor Rahm Emanuel proclaims Tuesday, September 27 “Paint the Town Red Day” in the City of Chicago “in honor of Chicago artists, the start of the theater season and the six-time Tony Award-winning play Red at Goodman Theatre, and urge(s) all Chicagoans to wear the color red as they celebrate the diverse theatrical and artistic community in Chicago.”

From 11am – 1pm, get caught RED-handed, painting. Chicagoans are invited to stop by the Goodman and join Playwright John Logan and the cast of Red in placing their handprint—in red, of course—and autograph on an 8’x9’ canvas that will be displayed during the run of the play.

Chicagoans can also participate in “Paint the Town RED Day” by Tweeting a photo of themselves wearing red using #PaintChiRED, or tag Goodman Theatre in his/her photo on Facebook, and be entered-to-win prizes—including a $200 gift certificate to Petterino’s and pair of complimentary tickets to Red.

In addition, the Goodman’s Preferred Restaurant Partners join the fun with these RED-hot specials:

Present a RED ticket stub at Petterino’s from September 27 – October 9 and receive a complimentary mini RED velvet cupcake with lunch or dinner purchase (150 N. Dearborn, 312.422.0150). Sip Catch Thirty Five’s “Ruby RED” martini—and get a free dessert with two entrée purchases (35 W. Wacker, 312.346.3500). Check out Trattoria No.10’s RED, red wine promotion; present a RED ticket stub and get discounted glasses and bottles of selected red wines (10 N. Dearborn, 312.984.1718).

Goodman Theatre’s 2011/2012 Season comes to life with Red, John Logan’s “sizzling, intellectually thrilling” (Chicago Tribune) journey into the mind of Abstract Expressionist Mark Rothko. Goodman Theatre Artistic Director Robert Falls helms this Chicago premiere and first major original American production of Red, featuring Edward Gero as Rothko and Chicago’s own Patrick Andrews as Ken, his young assistant. Logan’s six-time Tony Award-winning play has quickly become among the most acclaimed dramas of the past decade, critically hailed in London and on Broadway as an “electrifying play of ideas” (Variety) and an “engrossing, often enthralling new play about art, an artist and the act of creation” (Associated Press). Red runs through October 23, 2011, in the Goodman’s Albert Theatre; tickets are $25 – $84 (prices are subject to change). ComEd is the Official Lighting Sponsor, Katten Muchin Rosenman is the Major Corporate Sponsor, Abbott Fund and BNY Mellon Wealth Management are Corporate Sponsor Partners. Red is produced in association with Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater.
