Letters To Editors

From Governor Pat Quinn

Health care is a human right.

Everyone should have full access to health care, regardless of who they are or where they work — and your personal health decisions should stay between you and your doctor.

Last week, that idea was challenged by a Supreme Court ruling that takes these decisions from a woman and gives them to her employer.

A woman’s access to basic health care is under attack.

It’s time to send a message to lawmakers:

Add your name to show you believe that a woman’s health care decisions should be between her and her doctor, not her and her boss.

Earlier today, I signed a bill that will give the voters of Illinois a chance to make their voices heard on this very issue when they go to the polls in November.

At stake is whether any health insurance plan in Illinois that provides prescription drug coverage should also include prescription birth control.

But it’s more than just that. It’s about that basic human right to health care.

I will keep fighting to preserve the right of women in Illinois to make health care decisions based on their own beliefs, not the beliefs of the person signing their paycheck.

Today, we all have a chance to stand up for what we believe in.

Thank you.
