Actress Hattie Winston (“Becker”) will perform in a benefit concert for Ebony Repertory Theatre on Saturday, February 11, 2012. She will be accompanied by a trio led by her husband, Harold Wheeler (Dancing with the Stars).
Los Angeles, CA (BlackNews.com) — Legendary singer and actress Hattie Winston (Becker) will perform her one-woman evening of song, “Love Is…An Evening of Music for Lovers,” at the Nate Holden Performing Arts Center on Saturday, February 11, 2012. The show, which also features The Harold Wheeler Trio, is a benefit performance for the Ebony Repertory Theatre.
“Music is known as the universal language of the world. No matter the tongue used to communicate the melodies of music, barriers are broken, people are connected and souls are touched,” said Ms. Winston, who will perform with her husband, Harold Wheeler, musical director of Dancing with the Stars. “True theatre has the possibility to touch lives in the same way. Hence this benefit for the Ebony Repertory Theatre. My husband and I are honored to support the vision of this magnificent Company. Music, theatre, ‘Love Is…'”
The couple decided to do this benefit because of the importance of the Ebony Repertory Theatre. “This benefit is important as it supports the only Black repertory theatre company in Los Angeles,” said Mr. Wheeler, a six-time Tony Award nominee. “We are happy to do what we can to make sure Ebony Repertory Theatre can continue to provide quality productions to the Los Angeles community.”
This one-night-only performance marks the first time Ms. Winston has performed her stage act in nearly seven years. Ms. Winston and her husband previously hosted “Hattie and Harold’s Cabaret” at the historic Alex Theatre in Glendale, Calif.
Doors open at 7:00 pm and the show will begin at 8:00 pm. Tickets are $60 for individual purchase and $100 for two tickets.
