Senator Kirk Statement on ISIS Terrorist Attacks in France and Germany

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Mark Kirk (R-Ill.) issued a statement after ISIS terrorists yesterday videotaped their execution of Father Jacques Hamel, an 84-year-old French priest, at his church’s altar in the town of Saint-Etienne-du-Rouvray in Normandy. While French authorities had previously arrested one of the terrorists, a 19-year-old male, for twice attempting to travel to Syria and join ISIS, they later released him from jail under loose monitoring conditions.

“ISIS terrorists continue to target and kill Christians and other innocents, not only in the Middle East but now in Europe and beyond. With ISIS now threatening to launch more attacks in the United States, I call on the Administration to do all it can to protect American citizens from the terrorist threat, including stepped up efforts to prevent Islamic terrorist infiltration of Syrian refugee flows onto U.S. soil.”

The cold-blooded execution of Father Jacques Hamel comes days after a machete-wielding 21-year-old Syrian refugee murdered a pregnant woman in Germany, and a 27-year-old Syrian refugee who pledged allegiance to ISIS detonated a suicide bomb injuring 19 people in Germany.
