Kirk Condemns ISIS Kidnapping of Hundreds of Assyrian Christians
WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Mark Kirk (R-Ill.) released the following statement condemning the Islamic State (ISIS) for attacking Assyrian Christian villages in Syria’s Hassakeh province and kidnapping more than 200 Assyrian Christians, including women, children, priests, and the elderly:
“The Islamic State’s ongoing atrocities against Assyrian Christians remind us that terrorists pose an existential threat to religious and ethnic minorities throughout the Middle East. Yet while the Administration repeatedly talks of working with regional allies to destroy ISIS, it has yet to articulate and implement a serious strategy to achieve that important goal. In the meantime, innocent people are suffering and dying on an unconscionable scale.â€
