Episode Spotlights Yao Ming, Eight-Time NBA All-Star and Champion of Animal Rights

KCETLink, the national independent public digital and broadcast network, presents a new episode of FULL FRAME, CCTV America’s new weekly series, which features human interest storytelling, enlightening dialogue and humanitarian issues embraced by leading cultural luminaries.

This episode of FULL FRAME turns its lens on eight-time NBA All-Star YAO MING. Ming joins host Mike Walters in New York City to talk about his career, his role in bridging the culture gap between the United States and China, and his work as an animal activist.

While the 7’ 6” Ming is probably most well-known for his feats on the court playing center for the Houston Rockets, his greatest achievements extend beyond his NBA performance. In many ways, the moment Ming was selected as the number one NBA draft pick in 2002, he became a

cultural and sports ambassador between the United States and China.

Ming has not only worked to promote basketball, education, and wellness through the NBA’s Basketball Without Borders program, but he has also contributed to a number of humanitarian and animal rights causes.

Since 2006 he’s been a warrior in the fight to save elephants and rhinos from the dire effects of poaching as a WildAid ambassador. He’s also contributing to the cause calling for a ban on the sale of ivory. Poachers and politicians are tough opponents and changing thousands of years of Chinese tradition is no easy task either. However, Ming has always been a fierce competitor, ready for even the stiffest of challenges. In his new documentary, “Saving Africa’s Giants with Yao Ming”, he witnesses first-hand the devastating results of killing and maiming for ivory. This episode features an excerpt from Ming’s documentary.
