Jon Yates of the Chicago Tribune to receive Better Business Bureau Excellence In Media Award
Chicago, IL – Jon Yates, writer of the popular “What’s Your Problem” column in the Chicago Tribune, will receive the Diogenes Award for Excellence in Media from the Better Business Bureau serving Chicago and Northern Illinois (BBB). At the group’s Annual Dinner Meeting in the Hilton Palmer House Hotel on Thursday, March 15, 2012 Mr. Yates will be honored with the award for his years of news achievement.

“The BBB Diogenes Award for Excellence in Media is presented to the news person who exemplifies the goals and principles of the Better Business Bureau to support and foster an ethical marketplace benefiting both consumers and businesses,” said Steve J. Bernas, president & CEO of the Better Business Bureau serving Chicago and Northern Illinois. Â

The BBB Diogenes Award is named after the ancient Greek philosopher, Diogenes, who was said to have traveled the streets of Athens with a lantern looking for an honest man.

Mr. Yates graduated from the University of Iowa in 1992 with a degree in journalism and history, and the following year became a reporter at the Iowa City Press-Citizen. He later worked for the Palm Springs Desert Sun and the Nashville Tennessean, before joining the Chicago Tribune in 2000 as a general assignment reporter.
He started the “What’s Your Problem?” column in the Chicago Tribune in 2005. It appears on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays.
