1. Do you believe the proposed Illinois House Map, which draws 17 of 54 Republican members into districts with at least one other incumbent Republican, is a “fair and square†map?
Â
2. Cindi Canary, the director of the Illinois Campaign for Political Reform, asked the question of the House Map ‘Is this a partisan map, or is this a map about representing the voters of Illinois?’ What is your response?
Â
3. The Senate Map was released Thursday, and the House Map on Friday. Do you believe that holding hearings two days later without access to the demographic information used to create the maps is a fair and transparent process?
Â
4. Senate Democrats passed three “shell†bills over to the House for their maps to be added to later. Do you believe that Senate Republicans will have a chance to amend the maps?
Â
5. This will be the fourth consecutive map in which Illinois has lost a Congressional seat. What can state government do to keep our growth rate similar to states like Texas and Florida?
Â
6. There are currently 9 days left in May. Do you believe that is enough time for the General Assembly to address pension reform, workers’ compensation, expanding gambling to Chicago, the new maps, and the state budget?
Â
7. Illinois State Treasurer Dan Rutherford, one of the state’s chief financial officers, says the state is on “the verge of a financial disaster†and that we should avoid creating more debt. Do you still think it is a good idea to borrow billions of dollars to pay the state’s overdue bills?
Â
8. You said that you have made “all of the state’s boards and commissions more honest, transparent, and accessible.â€Â Do you support State Senator Dan Duffy’s introduced legislation to prohibit family members of legislators from being appointed to your lucrative boards?
Â
9. The Herald-Review recently discovered that the Illinois Educational Labor Relations Board members are each paid close to $100,000 yearly, for attending a monthly meeting of about 1-2 hours each. In the midst of the State’s worst financial crisis, do you believe the board members you appoint and oversee should receive a pay decrease?
Â
10. Do you support Senate Bill 2467, which includes a 47% pay increase for House Committee leaders?
