High School Students From Across the State Will Compete in the Illinois High School Association’s 2015 Speech-Individual Events State Tournament

IHSA Speech-Individual Events State Finals to be held at Peoria Civic Center


PEORIA, IL – High school students from across the state will compete in the Illinois High School Association’s (IHSA) 2015 Speech-Individual Events State Tournament February 20-21 at the Peoria Civic Center. This is the sixth year the event has been held at the Peoria Civic Center.

Approximately 500 students are expected to participate in the tournament. Students can compete in the following 14 events: Dramatic Duet Acting, Humorous Interpretation, Impromptu Speaking, Original Comedy, Poetry Reading, Prose Reading, Oratory, Dramatic Interpretation, Extemporaneous Speaking, Humorous Duet Acting, Poetry Reading, Radio Speaking, Special Occasion Speaking, and Informative Speaking. Teams will also compete in the Performance in the Round category.

Round 1 of the competition begins at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, February 20, with the last event of the day scheduled at 4:30 p.m. Round 2 begins Saturday at 8:30 a.m., with final rounds set to begin at 1:30 and 3 p.m. and awards ceremony at 5:30 p.m. Round schedules and up-to-the-minute results will be available on the IHSA website at www.ihsa.org.

Admission to this event is free for the public and community support for these students is encouraged.

The IHSA governs the equitable participation in interscholastic athletics and activities that enrich the educational experience. The purpose of IHSA is to provide leadership for the development, supervision and promotion of good sportsmanship in interscholastic competition and other activities in which its member schools choose to engage.

The 2015 IHSA Speech Tournament will create an economic impact of approximately $292,400 and fill over 800 hotel rooms in the Peoria Area. There will be approximately 1,400 – 1,500 individuals in attendance.

The PACVB represents an eight county region including Bureau, Fulton, Marshall, Mason, Peoria, Stark, Tazewell and Woodford. The organization’s mission is to promote the Peoria Area as a destination for visitors and contribute to the economic growth of the communities they represent.
