Guilty Verdict for Second Defendant in Murder Trial of Chicago Police Officer
A Cook County jury yesterday returned a guilty verdict for the second defendant charged with the murder of Chicago Police Officer Alejandro “Alex†Valadez, who was shot and killed in the line of duty while responding to a call of shots fired in the Englewood community in 2009.
Kevin Walker was convicted of First Degree Murder and Attempt First Degree Murder following a double jury trial at Leighton Criminal Courts Building in Chicago. State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez has served as lead prosecutor in the case.
Walker, along with co-defendant Christopher Harris, both began their jury trials last week. Another defendant in this case, Shawn Gaston, was previously convicted of the officer’s murder in 2011 and is serving a 125 year prison sentence.
