National Town Hall Meeting to kick-off State of Black World Conference III

 

The impact of the 2012 presidential election on the interests and aspirations of Black people in the U.S. and the Pan African world will be subject of the National Town Hall Meeting at State of the Black World Conference III (SOBWCIII, November 14-18 at the Blackburn Center and Crampton Auditorium at Howard University in Washington, D.C.

Convened by the Institute of the Black World 21st Century (IBW), SOBWCIII is billed as the first major gathering in Black America post-election. The Town Hall Meeting will feature a high profile panel of some of Black America’s most influential leaders including George Fraser, President/CEO , FraserNet, the largest network of Black professionals in the world; Susan Taylor, former Editorial Director of Essence Magazine and Director of National Mentoring Cares Movement ; Dr. Marc Lamont Hall, Host of Our World with Black Enterprise and Associate Professor, Columbia Teachers College; Dr. Julianne Malveaux, President Emeritus, Bennett College for Women, Syndicated Columnist; Professor Cornel West, Author Analyst, Professor of Religion, Union Theological Seminary, and Dr. Maulana Karenga, Creator of Kwanzaa, Professor of Black Studies, California State University, Long Beach. Confirmations of additional panelists are pending.

Bev Smith, Host of the Bev Smith Show on the Empowerment Network, SIRIUS/XM the power and Mark Thompson, Host of Make It Plain, SIRIUS/XM, will serve as moderators of the Town Hall Meeting – which will be broadcast by SIRIUS/XM.

Commenting on the significance of the Town Hall Meeting, Dr. Ron Daniels, President of IBW, said: “The theme of the Conference is State of Emergency in Black America: Time to Heal Black Families and Communities. This is a serious subject and we expect this stellar panel to provide an assessment of what Black people can expect from the next administration. This will help guide our deliberations as we develop a Declaration of Intent to Heal Black Families and Communities as the Action Agenda for SOBWCIII.”

The National Town Hall Meeting will be Thursday, November 15, 7:00 p.m., at Crampton Auditorium on the campus of Howard University. The Conference will begin November 14th with the Damu Smith Leadership Development and Organizer Training Institute.
