CHICAGO- Governor Pat Quinn and Comptroller Judy Baar Topinka hosted a Comptroller’s Critters pet adoption event at PAWS Chicago Sunday, February 9.
Nearly three years ago, Comptroller Topinka created the Comptroller’s Critters Pet Adoption Program to find good homes for shelter animals and save taxpayer dollars by avoiding the costs associated with overpopulation and animal control efforts. Around 100 shelters, including PAWS Chicago, have signed on to the effort in the time since its launch, and it has resulted in more than 2,200 pet adoptions.
On Sunday, Topinka toured the PAWS Chicago facility with Governor Quinn, PAWS Founder Paula Fasseas, and the Governor’s new terrier mix, Rosie.
“There are so many wonderful animals out there in need of homes,” Topinka said. “I applaud Governor Quinn for promoting the health and wellbeing of animals by adopting his new dog Rosie. Because that’s what this effort is all about-introducing these critters to the right people.”
