Chicago People’s Library Movement & Occupy Chicago will hold simultaneous public meetings at branch libraries, April 14

 

Will hold community meetings in nine libraries during National Library Week

 

The Occupy Chicago Labor Working Group’s Library Task Force, as part of the Chicago People’s Library Movement, will hold simultaneous public meetings at branch libraries in various  neighborhoods of Chicago this Saturday to mark the start of National Library Week (April 14 – 18) and to raise public awareness and concern about service and staff cuts at Chicago Public Libraries and privatization of C.P.L. resources.  Library patrons will gather at nine C.P.L. branch libraries and speak out about the recent and presumably imminent cuts to library service and staff.  Patrons will speak out about the meaning and importance libraries have to their lives, the effect cuts to hours and service have had, for the restoration of cuts and for their vision of what Chicago Public Libraries should and could be.

 The meetings will be held to:

 

1. Rally support for public libraries and their employees
2. Demand the restoration of hours of operation, services, and staffing cut by both the Richard M. Daley and Rahm Emanuel administrations.
3. Say NO to privatization of staff and public services

The meetings will take place Saturday, April 14th, at these times and locations:

10:00 am – noon @ Bezazian Library 1226 W. Ainslie  

10:00 am – noon @ Little Village Library 2311 S. Kedzie  

12:00 pm – 1:30 @ McKinley Park Library 1915 W. 35th St  

12:00 pm – 1:30 @ Kelly Library 6151 S. Normal  

1:30 pm – 3:30 @ Daley Library 3400 S. Halsted  

1:30 pm – 3:30 @ Toman Library 2708 S. Pulaski  

2:00 pm – 4:00 @ Albany Park Library 5150 N. Kimball

2:00 pm – 4:00 @ Rudy Lozano Library 1805 S. Loomis 

3:00 pm – 5:00 @ Logan Square Library 3030 W. Fullerton
