Black Blogger/Author launches new radio program to promote independent authors

Washington, DC (BlackNews.com) — Norwood Holland, blogger and author of the Drew Smith series, has partnered with WLVS Online Radio to produce and host Book World – a new weekly program designed to promote authors and their books. The show as part of the stations developing Lifestyles programming will feature a recap of weekly publishing developments, industry news, and discussions of issues confronting writers and independent publishers. The format will include book reviews and author interviews and offering commercial sponsorship spotlighting book trailer audios.
When asked about the show’s likelihood of success, Holland admits its “new and experimental” and an attempt to broaden the stations demographics, but sites a recent Arbitron/Edison research study reporting the recent jump of 30 percent in the online radio audience due primarily to the rise of smart phone use. This growth parallels the explosion in independent publishing, which has now moved into mainstream online channels through the growth of e-books and the surge of independent digital publishing platforms. Internet radio listeners represent an ideal demographic market to reach and influence.
Marketing a book is not easy, particularly for independent publishers lacking big budgets and access to radio and television. Time and again authors attest to the adage word of mouth is the most effective means of advertising. They depend on loyal readers and book club followers to get the word out. Book World gets the conversation started building on the word of mouth strategy while offering the latest publishing industry news.
In addition to providing information and news to book readers, Book World intends to help book sellers and authors with getting their books into the hands of readers. Authors and independent publishers with limited resources often encounter seemingly insurmountable marketing barriers. With or without a professional publicist seeking reviews or coverage-from newspapers, TV, and radio can be frustrating and difficult, but not impossible. Book World provides affordable means for those up to the challenge of breaking out.
The show debuts September 2, 2012 online at WLVS Listen Vision (www.listenvision.com) at 11 a.m. EST (3 p.m. GMT), and will be downloadable in MP3. Book World’s mission is to serve writers and publishers in promoting their books and businesses. For more information, contact Norwood at www.NorwoodHolland.com.
