The book is an enthralling inside look at the challenges that an artist faces and sacrifices that they make to be successful in the music industry.
Raquan is the central focus of the story, an aspiring singer and songwriter who struggles to attain his family’s past until his brother’s untimely death. His mother succumbs to alcoholism and is forced to send him away to live with his estranged father, Renwick Taylor, a high powered music executive. While living in Renwick’s home, an opportunity surfaces when he meets Antoine Swinger and goes against his mother’s wishes to pursue a career in music. Raquan enters the world of entertainment with high hopes and dreams but gradually realizes there are extreme prices to pay to maintain his fame. He quickly learns “what happens in the industry stays in the industry.”
Co-author Michael McGrew, comments, “Room 111 should have been written years ago! Being a writer in Los Angeles I knew a story so powerful as this would manifest and thanks to my co-author, we were able to bring the darkness of the music industry to light.” Michael is the author of “My Kinda Girlâ€, which sold over 7000 copies independently, “Taking Losses”, contributing author of “Between the Sheets” anthology and currently working on his fourth novel “False Eyelashes”. Keep your eyes and ears open for more projects from Legacy Publishing Group.
Co-author Kiesah Hakeem, comments, “Over several months, I kept seeing blogs from an author named Michael McGrew. I was fascinated by the fact that he independently released two novels of his own, but what intrigued me even further was that he was starting an independent publishing company. I was in the process of writing a novel about the entertainment industry so I reached out to Michael McGrew and was surprised that he responded right away! We set up a phone conference and it just so happened that he was in the process of creating a book with similar ideas and content. At that point, we decided to collaborate on Room 111 and the experience has been phenomenal!”
Kiesah is the former lead singer from the family group Royalty, signed to Warner Brothers Records working with famed producers, Atlantic Star, Teddy Riley, Full Force, Jodeci and Gerald Levert. She lent her songwriting talents to several recording artists, including but not limited to, Tamia, Jessica Jerrell, Kiki Palmer, Brandy, Fabolus, Amerie, Kiesah Cole, Naz, Nick Cannon, Jay Z and the legendary Gladys Knight’s Grammy Award winning contemporary album “Greatest Love of All”. Kiesah also has film credits to her name but becoming an author is her latest endeavor.
