The acclaimed Augustana Choir launches its Midwest tour on February 17, presenting six concerts along with eight guest ensembles through February 23, and ending with a home concert on March 12.
Led by Dr. Jon Hurty, the choir has a tradition of touring across the country and around the world that goes back decades. Many students and alumni say the highlight of their Augustana experience was touring with an ensemble. Dr. Hurty has conducted his choirs in concerts throughout the United States as well as Sweden, Norway, China, Germany, Italy, Austria, Japan and Korea.
On Wednesday, February 22 the choir will perform with Lake Zurich High School Concert Choir and James B. Conant Chamber Choir at 7:30 p.m. at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, 1234 N. Arlington Heights Rd., Arlington Heights, Ill. On Thursday, February 23 the choir will perform with Metea Valley High School Chamber Singers and Yorkville High School Choir at 7 p.m. at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, 815 S. Washington St., Naperville, Ill.
The choir is looking forward to working and performing with hundreds of high school students throughout the tour. Having previously conducted the Illinois All-State Honors Choir, Dr. Hurty is excited for the chance to work with some impressive young ensembles.
“Encouraging young singers to reach for their goals is an important component of this tour,” Dr. Hurty said. “And there is great value in the opportunity for our choir to work with other ensembles. It helps us to become a more diversified choir and allows us to learn from one another.”
