CHICAGO, IL – This election night members of Grassroots Illinois Action, an independent political organization, celebrate the victory of Delia Ramirez for 4th District State Representative in the Democratic primary, as well as five Grassroots Illinois Action endorsed candidates leading against machine candidates at the time of this release.

Grassroots Illinois Action Humboldt Park Committee (GIA-HPA) has been organizing for the last four years in the heart of the 4th district around issues of community displacement and the need for greater investment in public neighborhood schools. GIA-HPA Members voted to endorse Delia in October and helped circulate petitions to get her on the ballot due to her strong support on these issues.

“Tonight is a win for residents concerned about the displacement and disinvestment we have seen in our community. Delia’s commitment to not take any campaign contributions from private developers, her support for lifting the state ban on rent control, and her incredibly deep roots in our community made a huge difference when talking with voters on the doors. We look forward to working with her on these issues which are so important to the people of our district,” said Felipe E. Hernandez, Steering Committee member of GIA-HPA.

Grassroots Illinois Action knocked over 20,000 doors in support of a progressive slate of candidates committed to fighting for working families. Other GIA endorsed candidates include: Aaron Ortiz for State Representative of the 1st District, Rob Martwick for State Representative of the 19th District, Brandon Johnson for Cook County Commissioner 1st District, Alma Anaya for Cook County Commissioner 7th District, and Ram Villivalam for State Senator of the 8th District.
