From: Chicago Alliance Against Racist & Political Repression

We of Chicago Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression extend our condolences to the family of Pierre L. Loury, 16, who was murdered by Chicago Police on the West Side yesterday.  We urge people to come out and support the memory of Loury at a vigil being held tonight at 7:00 pm at the site of the murder, 3436 West Grenshaw, just west of Homan, and demand an all-elected civilian police accountability council (CPAC).

Loury’s name is added to the list of 133 people killed and over 400 people shot by the CPD since August 2007.  Ninety-one per cent of the victims have been people of color.

According to news media Loury, a 16 year old adolescent, was shot and killed less than two blocks from his home following a police chase on the City’s West Side around 8 pm.

CPD officers told reporters that a “suspicious” car they were chasing stopped and Loury got out started running.  One officer started chasing him, and when he didn’t stop opened fire and fatally struck him.

Police said they recovered a gun a block from the scene, according to some reports. No officer reported being shot at.

Frank Chapman, Field Organizer of the Alliance’s Stop Police Crimes Organizing Committee said, “Enough is Enough!!!! The City Council can end this blood-shed and pass the ordinance establishing all-elected Civilian Police Accountability Council (CPAC) that will replace the current system of police impunity.

END THE COVER-UP OF POLICE CRIMES!  NO MORE IPRA!  … DEMAND CPAC!!!!!”
