Fort Valley State University to Hold Race Relations Forum and Encourage Hate-Free Zones
Fort Valley, GA (BlackNews.com) – The Criminal Justice Department of Fort Valley State University plans to encourage Hate-Free Zones for the practice of good race relations. Toward that end, a Race Relations Forum will be held at 10 a.m. on April 13, 2016 in the FVSU Pettigrew Building.
Dr. LeRoy Miller, attorney and a professor in the FVSU Criminal Justice Department, believes “good race relations begin with the proclamation that all who enter a Hate-Free Zone, whether it be a room, house, building or community will not practice hate, racism or prejudice. Anyone who practices hate, racism and prejudice should not enter. Miller says, Visual display of the heart makes a difference in discouraging hate.”
Speakers at the two-hour Race Relations Forum include Sen. Donzella James (Democrat, District 35, Atlanta), Tom Hudson, member and past President of the Bibb County Board of Education, and Attorney Roy Miller, who mounted a personal campaign and succeeded in having the n-word stricken from a major dictionary. The program includes six FVSU students who each will present a two-minute brief about recent cases regarding Black Americans and the U.S. Criminal Justice System.
The Forum will feature special guest vocalist Theresa Morton, a nationally known gospel recording artist and winner of the Gospel Choice Award, who will set the mood for receiving messages of love.
The Forum is free and open to the public. Fort Valley State University is a historically black university located at 1005 State University Drive. It also is a unit of the University System of Georgia and a member-school of the Thurgood Marshall College Fund.
