Congressional Black Caucus Calls for Long-Term Funding for U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS)
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Representative G. K. Butterfield (NC-01), Chairman of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC), issued the following statement encouraging the passage of long-term funding to support the Department of Homeland Security (DHS):
“The proposal put forth by the House Appropriations Committee miserably fails one of our country’s most necessary security programs and puts our nation in jeopardy.  DHS is vital and essential in protecting our country on all fronts, and we must do what is necessary to ensure the safety of our nation. To allow the Republican legislation to move forward to cut DHS funding would put America and our families at grave risk at a time when we face broad threats at home and abroad.
“America cannot afford a lapse in funding for DHS, and it is critical that we restore certainty in funding immediately. Members of the Congressional Black Caucus urge Republicans leaders to take responsible action and pass a clean bill to fund DHS without delay.â€
