Sec’y of State Jesse White Co-Hosted Annual Candlelight Vigil with AAIM & MADD To Honor Victims of Drunk Driving
Reminds Drivers to Travel Safely This Holiday Season
Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White co-hosted a candlelight vigil with Alliance Against Intoxicated Motorists (AAIM) Director Rita Kreslin and Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) National President Jan Withers, honoring those killed or injured by drunk drivers. Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan and Illinois State Police Director Hiram Grau also participated in the ceremony.
“Each year, we gather to pay tribute to victims of drunk driving,†White said. “I would like to remind everyone to travel safely so we can prevent such tragedies from occurring. Working with AAIM, MADD and the Illinois State Police, we can ensure tougher enforcement, strengthen laws and create awareness to combat drunk driving.â€
White hosted the event with AAIM and MADD to promote awareness and remember the lives lost and forever changed by alcohol-related car crashes. White spoke about the consequences of drunk driving, along with Attorney General Madigan and Director Grau, among other dignitaries.
The program also included a ceremonial lighting of candles, personal testimonies from people affected by drunk driving tragedies and musical tributes from local vocalists.
“As we join with family and friends this holiday season, we remind everyone to celebrate responsibly,†White said. “Designate a sober driver, take public transportation or catch a cab. Please don’t drink and drive.â€
