The incredible successes the NAACP has seen in its 105-year history would not have been possible without two things: strong leadership and passionate activists like you.

For the past seven months, interim president Lorraine C. Miller has led this organization with unwavering dedication through our triumphs and challenges. I am so grateful for her immeasurable contributions to the NAACP and to the civil rights movement at large.

Today, I am proud to announce the beginning of the next chapter for our organization: Cornell William Brooks will take office as the NAACP’s 18th president and CEO.

Join me in welcoming him with a note of support and your thoughts about which issues are most important to you.

Send him a message
Mr. Brooks’ qualifications extend beyond his six years serving as the president and CEO of the New Jersey Institute for Social Justice, his work with the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, and his time as senior counsel for the Federal Communications Commission.

A fourth-generation ordained minister, he has worked to pass legislation to help previously incarcerated men and women rebuild their lives. In fact, his work was called a model for the nation by the New York Times.

Mr. Brooks is uniquely fit to lead the nation’s oldest, boldest, and largest civil rights organization because he has fought for—and is dedicated to continuing to fight for—public education, affordable health care, voting rights, social justice, and equality for all Americans.

These values bind us all together. In the end, the NAACP is more than one person or even a small committee of leaders. It is our vast community of supporters from all walks of life who share a steadfast resolve to keep the NAACP strong.

Tell President Brooks where you stand. Send a message to welcome him to the NAACP family, and share your priorities for 2014 and beyond:
