Introvert Weichung’s measured life as a family man is shaken up when a chance encounter with a charming flight attendant revives feelings from his long suppressed gay past. Instantly falling head-over-heels, Weichung funds himself having to choose between the promise of true love and the security of a conventional domestic life. Meanwhile, his sister, engaged to the nicest of, if slightly over-enthusiastic, men, begins to question her own desire to enter into married life. Fantastical flourishes color this bittersweet romantic comedy that is at once wise and funny in its exploration of formal notions of family, sexuality, and friendship. The musical score, crowned by the titular Shirelles’ 1961 hit performed by Taiwanese pop star Mavis Fan (who plays Weichung’s wife), offers a bright if satirical overlay of pastiches from old Hollywood romance. 104 minutes. Mandarin with English subtitles.
Shown at the 49th Chicago International Film Festival in 2013, Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow? won the Gold Q Hugo Film Award in the LGBTQ film competition.
